Pulled from the headlines: An insider's view of ethical issues in high-profile investigations

This two-hour program featured speakers who shared actionable insights into legal ethics issues pulled from the front pages, with an emphasis on how in-house counsel can best navigate issues that arise during high-profile and politically charged criminal and civil investigations, congressional investigations, and related prosecutions.

Presented by Hogan Lovells partners Tom Connally and Jon Talotta; Ty Cobb, former Special Counsel to the President; and Suzanne Rich Folsom, former general counsel of U.S. Steel and Academi/Blackwater. Speakers provided real-world experience and practical advice that in-house counsel can use to recognize and proactively navigate ethical obligations and potential pitfalls, including

  • Balancing duties of cooperation and candor with client interests and directions.
  • Preserving attorney-client privilege and work product protections.
  • Managing joint defense arrangements.
  • Making public statements regarding ongoing investigations.

This program was a joint Hogan Lovells and Association of Corporate Counsel, National Capital Region event.
