Hogan Lovells advises on two award winning aviation finance deals

Press releases | 01 July 2021

1 July 2021 – Global law firm Hogan Lovells is pleased to announce that two aviation finance deals that the firm advised on were recognised in the Airline Economics Aviation 100 Deals of the Year Awards 2021. The Awards highlight the most significant deals closed in 2020 from around the world.

Aviation 100 Americas Lease Deal of the Year for the Southwest Airlines sale-leaseback financing for ten 737-800s with Standard Chartered. We advised Pembroke Capital (the aircraft leasing arm of Standard Chartered) on the transaction, which was the first aircraft finance and leasing transaction between Southwest and Standard Chartered, undertaken under a very tight timeframe and at a time when the aviation industry was predominantly shut down. The transaction was led by New York Aviation Finance partner Mehtap Cevher Conti.

Aviation 100 Asia-Pacific Capital Markets Deal of the Year for the BOC Aviation US$750 million Bond. We advised BOC Aviation as issuer on its US$750 million, 10-year 144A/Reg S fixed rate bond, priced in September 2020. The issuance allowed the lessor to extend its credit curve at a very low cost. The transaction was led by Singapore Capital Markets partner Andy Ferris and New York Capital Markets partner Sina Hekmat.

Commenting, Robert Fugard, head of Asset Finance at Hogan Lovells said: "Our team’s work on these transactions, which took place during an exceptionally challenging year for the aviation industry, put our firm at the forefront of the industry and are testament to the quality and depth of our international practice."
