Press releases | 25 February 2021

Washington, D.C., 25 February 2021 – Global law firm Hogan Lovells has published its fourth annual Life Sciences and Health Care Horizons report, an in-depth assessment of current and evolving trends that are shaping the future of the industry.

The report comes after a year of incredible innovation and change as the industry faced the challenges posed by the global COVID-19 pandemic. With contributions from more than 75 members of the Hogan Lovells Life Sciences and Health Care industry sector team from around the world, the report covers a multitude of opportunities, challenges, and risks that companies must consider as everything, from product development, to cell, tissue, and gene therapies, and patent law, continues to rapidly advance.

The report reflects the expedited adoption of new technologies and innovations resulting in massive investments into areas such as virtual health solutions and privacy and cybersecurity measures. The response to the pandemic forced regulators to learn to act as nimbly as the companies they oversee to keep up with the rapidly changing environment. In the transactional space, companies found new ways to collaborate virtually, as the need for cooperation grew.

Lynn Mehler, Steve Abrams, and Jane Summerfield serve as the Co-Heads of the Hogan Lovells Life Sciences and Health Care industry group, comprised of more than 500 lawyers around the world supporting more than 1,000 clients from emerging companies to the industry stalwarts. Mehler commented: “In an industry that has always been driven by innovation and need, we find much to look forward to and be excited about in the coming months and years ahead.” Abrams noted: “This guide will serve as a high-level overview of the potential opportunities, challenges, and risks those exciting new developments may bring.” Summerfield added: “We are excited to continue helping our Life Sciences and Health Care clients navigate increasingly complex matters and helping them thrive in today’s difficult environment.”

With a deep understanding of the Life Sciences and Health Care industry, Hogan Lovells provides creative strategies to companies looking to bridge the gap between the challenges they face and the outcome desired.
