Washington D.C., 21 November 2019 – International law firm Hogan Lovells is pleased to announce that Dell’s Legal Department has honored the firm with its 2019 Dell Legal Diversity Award. This is the third time the firm has won the award, which Dell’s legal team presents to partner law firms that contribute to advancing diversity and inclusion in the legal profession.

The Dell Legal Diversity Award recognizes law firms for diverse staffing on Dell matters, overall attorney demographics at the firm, leadership opportunities provided to diverse attorneys, engagement of diverse vendors, and the creation of an inclusive environment. The award recognized Hogan Lovells’ innovative programs aimed at improving diversity and inclusion, and the strong diversity metrics those programs have delivered.

The award, which was presented to a group including Leslie Richards-Yellen, our Director of Inclusion - Americas, and partners Richard Parrino, Kevin Greenslade, Ari Fitzgerald, Celine Crowson, and Mark Brennan at a luncheon on 18 November, was clinched following a presentation to Dell’s Legal committee by our lawyers and diversity and inclusion team.

The firm was also recently included in the Diversity & Flexibility Alliance’s “Tipping the Scale” award.

The Diversity & Flexibility Alliance award also recognized the progress the firm has made in Diversity and Inclusion. Hogan Lovells is one of 51 firms included in the award, its first year, that had 50 percent or more women in its 2019 U.S.-based new partner class. The Diversity and Flexibility Alliance works with law firms, financial service firms, and other corporations on improving flexibility and inclusion.

“It brings me great personal and professional satisfaction to see the growth of diversity and inclusion in law,” said Eve Howard, Regional Managing Partner for the Washington D.C. area. “When I began my legal career, programs devoted to diversity and inclusion were almost unheard of. Now we know the unquestionable value that is brought to a firm’s culture and success by embracing and supporting a diverse workforce.”

The Diversity and Flexibility Alliance’s research found that 41.3 percent of new partners in 138 major U.S. law firms in 2019 were women, surpassing last year’s mark by 2.4 percent. Its full executive summary can be found here.

The firm has achieved notable long-term success in its Diversity and Inclusion efforts. Some examples include being named the Chambers 2019 “Most Inclusive Firm for Minority Lawyers,” inclusion in Working Mother’s “Best Law Firm for Women” list for eight years in a row, being awarded a Gold Standard Certification from the Women in Law Empowerment Forum for seven years in a row in the U.S., achieving Mansfield 2.0 Plus certification for exceeding key diversity and inclusion targets, and being recognized by the Human Rights Campaign with a 100 percent rating in its 2019 Corporate Equality Index.
