Washington, D.C., 3 September 2019 – International law firm Hogan Lovells is pleased to announce that one year after committing to the Mansfield Rule 2.0, the firm has achieved "Mansfield Certification Plus" for 2019.

The Mansfield Rule 2.0 measures which law firms are committed to measuring, tracking, and improving the composition of women, minority, and LGBT+ candidates for lateral hiring, senior leadership positions, and business development activities. The certification is given by Diversity Lab, an organization that promotes creative ideas and solutions to boost diversity in the field of law.

Hogan Lovells has also signed on to the new Mansfield Rule 3.0 and is one of five pilot firms who have volunteered to take on a more intensive tracking process over the next year.

"We have seen first-hand that diversity on a legal team and in leadership brings better results," said Hogan Lovells CEO Steve Immelt. "We are proud of this certification as a marker of where we are, but recognize that this is not a sign to stop or slow down our efforts. We will continue to invest in our commitment to diversity and inclusion so that our global law firm reflects and supports the communities we are a part of and the clients we serve."

In 2018, 65 law firms, including Hogan Lovells, signed on to the Mansfield Rule 2.0. Of those 65 law firms, 64 have been certified and 54 received the Mansfield Certification Plus distinction.

The Mansfield Plus Certification indicates that in addition to meeting or exceeding the pipeline consideration requirements for certification, we also successfully reached at least 30 percent diverse lawyer representation in a notable number of current leadership roles and committees.

The Mansfield Rule was adapted from the National Football League’s Rooney Rule, which requires NFL teams to interview at least one minority candidate for a head coach or general manager position. The Mansfield Rule was developed after 2016's Women in Law Hackathon, organized by Diversity Lab and its CEO, Caren Ulrich Stacy.

The certification is just one of the firm's several recent diversity and inclusion achievements. In 2019, we've been named a "Most Inclusive Firm for Minority Lawyers," by Chambers, a "Top Ten Firm for Gender Equity," by Yale Law Women, one of the "Best Law Firms for Women," by Working Mother, and received a 100 percent rating in the Human Rights Campaign's 2019 Corporate Equality Index.
