London, 30 May 2019 - Hogan Lovells picked up two awards in 24 hours for its partnership with Barefoot College, winning 'CSR Innovation' at the Legal Week Innovation Awards 2019 and 'Best partnership with an international charity' at the Better Society Awards.

Both awards recognise the firm's shared value partnership with Indian social enterprise Barefoot College, which trains rural women as solar engineers at their campus in Rajasthan. The partnership aims to bring clean, renewable light to 200,000 people in 35 countries through the Barefoot solar mamas. To date, the partnership has trained 384 women from 35 countries and seen 99 lawyers provide 1,300 hours of pro bono advice to enable Barefoot to open four additional training centres in Africa, Latin America, and the Pacific.

For CSR Innovation, the Legal Week Innovation Awards run by ALM (American Lawyer Media) seek to recognize those who are using their imagination and ingenuity to turn good ideas to products and services for clients.  Gill McGreevy (Partner, Real Estate), Yasmin Waljee (International Pro Bono Director), Regan Leahy (Assistant Manager, Citizenship), Fabienne Gress (Assistant Manager, Citizenship), and Leanne Lucas (Senior Assistant, Citizenship) collected the award.

The Better Society Awards reward companies who are helping create a better, more equal, ethical and sustainable world for all. This is the second time Hogan Lovells has won this award (previously for its partnership with Lendwithcare) and the third Better Society Award Hogan Lovells has won in total. Representing Hogan Lovells were Regan Leahy, Gill McGreevy, Oliver Hamilton (Senior Associate), and Harry Wright (Associate). Nicola Keane represented Barefoot College.

The partnership also won 'CSR Initiative of the Year' in the Legal Business Awards earlier this year.

Yasmin Waljee said: "We are delighted by the result of both awards as it recognizes and reaffirms our place in the market as a thought leader and innovator in CSR and shared value partnerships."
