Submarine cables, accessories and insurability: Headaches for developers, contractor and insurers alike?

The session focuses on the reasons for the difficulties in securing appropriate CAR and OAR insurance cover for submarine cables and related accessories, strategies to reduce or overcome such difficulties, and examples of risk allocation between the various project parties.

Our speakers for this event are Ralf Skowronnek, CEO at Skowronnek & Bechnak GmbH International Risk Advisors/Authorized Insurance Experts, and Jonathan Wheatley, Senior Risk Consultant at Primo Risk & Control. 

Ralf brings 17 years offshore wind experience as Insurance Engineer with 40GW risk and insurance solutions for major projects in Europe and Asia and a recent focus on the floating offshore wind industry, including dynamic (export) cables, mooring systems and tow-to-port/on-site MCE concepts and related insurability.

Jonathan has been involved in Offshore Wind since the earliest projects in the UK. He has worked for some of the main installation firms including Boskalis and DEME Offshore. He was the negotiation lead for the Dogger Bank Offshore Wind Farm, part of the original development team of the UK – Germany Interconnector, NeuConnect, and currently advises insurers on construction and operational risks.
