Dr Alexander Klicznik represents clients both in patent infringement proceedings and validity proceedings. He conducts numerous proceedings before the UPC (in particular also revocation counterclaim proceedings), nullity actions before the Federal Patent Court and opposition proceedings before the European or German Patent Office as well as infringement proceedings before the German infringement courts. He has also argued several nullity appeal cases before the Federal Supreme Court. Thanks to his dual qualification as an attorney-at-law and as a European Patent Attorney (physics), he advises in particular on proceedings with high technical complexity in the fields of medical devices, medical physics, telecommunications, mobile communications (including mobile phone standards), data compression, pharmaceuticals, chemistry, biotechnology, solid state physics, computer hardware and software, optical devices and mechanics.
Alexander Klicznik has been focusing on patents since 1999 (initially in the field of research and teaching at the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property in Munich, since 2004 as a German attorney-at-law dedicated to patent litigation, subsequently also as a European Patent Attorney and since 2023 as a representative before the UPC). He is one of the few dual-qualified attorneys/patent attorneys in Germany who is recommended for both infringement actions and nullity actions (IAM Patent 1000; Legal 500).
In addition to litigation, Alexander Klicznik is also a lecturer for nullity proceedings, opposition proceedings and proceedings before the Unified Patent Court in the Intellectual Property LL.M. programme at the University of Düsseldorf.
During his previous studies in physics, Alexander Klicznik worked on magnetic atomic force microscopy on magnetic thin films, NMR spectroscopy and the programming of software to read and analyse an extensive database as part of an experimental determination of the magnetic form factor of the neutron.
