Mel has an active trial practice and has tried dozens of jury and non-jury cases in state and federal courts nationwide, and has represented parties in arbitrations before domestic and international tribunals. He has successfully advocated for both plaintiffs and defendants in numerous disputes, including actions arising from the purchase and sale of securities, physical commodities, and derivatives. Additionally, he has tried enforcement proceedings brought by the SEC and the CFTC.
Mel began his career in the Office of the General Counsel of the SEC. During that time, he represented the SEC in appeals and as amicus curiae before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Courts of Appeals for the Second, Fifth, Sixth, Ninth and D.C. Circuits, and in actions before the United States District Courts.
Mel regularly lectures on securities, commodities and corporate law topics, and conducts compliance seminars in each of these areas.
