Construction and Engineering Summit

Navigating projects amid increased regulation and global political power and energy shifts

Our annual Construction and Engineering Summit will take place this year on Thursday 17 October. Our keynote speaker Julia Prescot CBE, Deputy Chair of the UK's National Infrastructure Commission, will offer an outlook on the future of UK infrastructure policy and reflect on potential approaches to delivery challenges such as planning reform.

Join us in person or virtually as we explore the construction and engineering landscape against the wider background of national elections, geopolitics, growing regulatory requirements, and the international push to reduce carbon emissions.

Panels comprising our global team, market leading barristers and arbitrators, and senior representatives from construction and engineering firms will tackle questions like:

  • What's market when drafting contracts in 2024?
  • What's best practice for in-house legal teams when managing projects as energy transition gathers pace and AI advances?
  • How do I handle disputes before instructing external counsel?
  • Does investment treaty arbitration open up a new way to resolve construction and engineering disputes in the energy sector?
  • What can I learn from behavioural science to ensure big projects don't fail?
  • How will regulatory and market changes and challenges affect project funding and contract drafting?
  • In light of political, climate and technological upheavals, how can I present my case most persuasively to an arbitrator in common and civil law jurisdictions?

Round-table discussions will cover issues faced in different corners of the globe, renewable energy, and the UK's public procurement regime and Building Safety Act.
