Training for new and inexperienced trustees

We will be hosting our annual trustee training course, to be run this year in four 90 minute online sessions from Tuesday, 5 October 2021 to Friday, 8 October 2021, from 9:30a.m. to 11a.m. each day. The course will cover all legal aspects of the Pensions Regulator's trustee knowledge and understanding syllabus and participants will be sent a certificate of attendance.

The sessions will be live and there will be opportunity to ask questions or share your comments. If you can’t attend one or more sessions, recordings will be available to view online shortly after the end of each session.   

Days 1 and 2 (5 and 6 October) will cover material relevant to trustees of both defined benefit (DB) and defined contribution (DC) schemes, including:
  • The role of pension trustees
  • The role of the Pensions Regulator
  • Trustee liability and protection for trustees
  • Pensions and taxation
  • An overview of major pension legislation
  • Disputes, the Pensions Ombudsman and the courts.
Day 3 (7 October) will focus on legal issues important for DB schemes, including:
  • DB funding and investment
  • Moral hazard and the Pensions Regulator’s powers
  • How DB schemes can impact corporate transactions
  • The Pension Protection Fund
Day 4 (8 October) will consider DC-specific areas, including:
  • DC investment
  • Communications with members
  • DC governance and administration.
​The course is free of charge.

Target audience: new and inexperienced trustees of occupational pension schemes, and those wanting a refresher. While this course is aimed at trustees, those new to pensions in other capacities will also be welcome.
