Patrick McPherson focuses on efficiently and effectively resolving disputes related to construction, energy, and infrastructure projects. Driven by a pragmatic and commercial approach to dispute resolution, he represents clients across the Middle East, Asia, and Africa.

Ranked as a Next Generation Partner by Legal 500 and as having “substantial industry experience” and “an in depth knowledge of dealing with complex high value construction disputes in the GCC”, Patrick acts in complex and substantial claims for employers and developers, contractors and engineering and design consultants in a variety of arbitration forums as well as domestic courts. 

Patrick is admitted to the High Court of New Zealand, and was previously in-house counsel for one of the Middle East’s largest construction companies.

Representative experience

Acting for the developer of the world’s largest new build petrochemical plant in KSA in relation to four ICC arbitrations concerning EPC contract claims, defective design and performance.*

Advised a contractor with claims for over US$800m in a DIAC arbitration related to the construction of Dubai International Airport.*

Advised the main contractor consortium for Stage 2 of the Etihad Rail project, including on claims management.*

Advised a global engineering consultancy in defending claims in excess of $US320m arising out of a major fire in a high-rise hotel in Dubai.*

Acted for a M.E.P subcontractor in a LCIA-DIFC arbitration regarding delay and variation claims in excess of US$140m arising out of a university project in Abu Dhabi.*

Acted for a UAE company in a DIAC arbitration concerning a hotel/resort development in Abu Dhabi.*

Advised a KSA developer in advancing claims against a contractor in relation to hotel projects in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Daman.*

Advised a hotel owner in claims against an architect and main contractor due to a defective facade at a hotel in Dubai Marina.*

Represented a construction company in a DIAC arbitration between joint venture partners for a new terminal development at Dubai International Airport.*

Advised the M.E.P. subcontractor in relation to claims against the main contractor arising out of a prestigious national museum development in Doha, Qatar.*

Advised an M.E.P. subcontractor for final account claims relating to commercial officer towers in Abu Dhabi.*

Acted for a contractor for claims against the employer relating to the construction of a hotel and office tower development in Dubai.*

Advised a joint venture mechanical works subcontractor on the Midfield Terminal Project at Abu Dhabi International Airport.*
