First-ever Miami Arbitration Week highlights, hosted by MIAS

As an international business and financial gateway between the Americas, Europe, and Asia, Miami has rapidly emerged as an innovative and preferred alternative to traditional international arbitration centers such as London, New York, or Geneva, particularly for disputes arising from Latin America and the Caribbean.

Hogan Lovells’ Miami office hosted the week’s inaugural kick-off event 8 November, a widely successful event with nearly 100 business executives and arbitral practitioners attending a panel discussion and subsequent cocktail reception.

Richard C. Lorenzo, Hogan Lovells’ Regional Managing Partner for the Americas, who also serves as the Chair of MIAS/MIAF, delivered the event’s closing remarks, highlighting Miami’s role as “the world’s preferred international arbitration venue based on its strategic development as a hub for international business.”

Lorenzo also provided opening remarks at MIAS’s 2nd Annual LATAM Investor-State Conference on Sunday, 12 November at the University of Miami. The conference consisted of a series of panel debates with leading international arbitral practitioners, including a keynote address delivered by former President of the International Court of Arbitration (ICC) Alexis Mourre; the day concluded with a Tylney-Hall Symposium that provided participants an opportunity to share latest trends and views on international arbitration developments and alternate dispute resolution.

Various sessions throughout the week have done a deep dive into all forms of investment and commercial arbitration, as well as the challenges that we all face.”

Miami Arbitration Week concluded on 15 November with the Florida International University College of Law event on corruption and arbitration.
