Hogan Lovells advises The Crown Estate as it seals landmark agreements for offshore wind projects
London, 19 January 2023 – Global law firm Hogan Lovells has advised The Crown Estate on the award of landmark agreements for the development of six fixed offshore wind projects.
The completion of these agreements marks the culmination of a project known as Offshore Wind Leasing Round 4. This project creates the opportunity to deliver renewable electricity for more than 7 million homes, through the production of nearly 8GW of renewable energy and is a significant step in the UK’s response to climate change.
A multi-disciplinary team at Hogan Lovells acted for The Crown Estate throughout the Offshore Wind Leasing Round 4 project; from concept design stages, throughout the live auction/tender process and, looking to the future, on to the asset management of these projects following the completion of these Agreements for Lease.
The Hogan Lovells team was led by partners Nicholas Roberts and Scott Tindall, and supported by a core team including consultant Kate Rees, senior associate Rosie Bradford and associate Amy Cleaves with others supporting across the firm.
Nicholas Roberts, real estate partner at Hogan Lovells said: “It is a privilege to advise The Crown Estate on all of its offshore renewable energy matters and to consider ourselves part of the team in the UK’s journey to net zero by 2050. Round 4 represents a further jewel in The Crown Estate’s offshore marine portfolio, a world leading project with which we are delighted to be associated.”
Scott Tindall, infrastructure, energy and projects partner at Hogan Lovells, added: “The demand for renewable energy generated from offshore wind has never been higher, as calls for increased energy security grow louder and the need to respond to climate change on a global scale becomes more urgent. It has been a pleasure to support The Crown Estate in further enhancing the UK’s reputation as a world leader for renewable energy with a project which has the potential to make such a significant contribution to the UK’s net zero future.”
