Hogan Lovells celebrates 30 years in Colorado marked by strong growth and national recognition
Denver, Colorado Springs, 8 November 2023 – The Denver and Colorado Springs offices of global law firm Hogan Lovells will celebrate 30 years of service in the Centennial State tomorrow. The firm’s Colorado offices have played a crucial role in many projects critical to Colorado’s growth and development, and both continue to build on those foundations by leading international matters and winning recognition from national legal media.
Denver Office Managing Partner Craig Umbaugh, who joined the office in 1995 and also serves as Global Head of the firm’s Sports, Media, and Entertainment practice, and Colorado Springs Office Managing Partner and head of the Colorado Litigation practice Jeff George, who also joined the firm in 1995, will host a celebration at Coohills Restaurant in Denver. Don Walker, the original founding partner of the Denver and Colorado Springs offices, will also be in attendance.
Speaking on the anniversary, Umbaugh commented: “We are immensely proud of the impact we have had on Colorado and on Hogan Lovells in the last three decades. Law firms are all about the people – with dedication and perseverance, we have gone from a handful of lawyers to a team of over 70 including many of whom have done work of national significance.”
Corporate & Finance partner Helen Atkeson is the last remaining original Denver office founder, while John Cook, who joined the firm in 1994 and served as Office Managing Partner at the Colorado Springs office for 18 years, also remains with the firm as a partner, and several other Colorado-based lawyers have been with the firm for more than two decades and played significant roles in the growth and success of our offices in the Rocky Mountain region.
Jeff George added: “We could not do this without great people and nothing better illustrates our culture than the long tenure of so many of our lawyers and business services employees. Hogan Lovells has gone from strength to strength in this state, setting deep roots and giving great service to our businesses and communities.”
The firm’s presence in Colorado provides clients a multi-practice, multi-sector offering. In particular, the offices have notable strength in Mergers & Acquisitions, Private Equity, Life Sciences and Healthcare, Environmental, Real Estate, Litigation, and Sports, Media, and Entertainment (a winner of Law360’s prestigious Practice Groups of the Year in three out of the last four years).
In addition to award winning client work, the Hogan Lovells Colorado offices support many community initiatives through pro bono projects, one of the cornerstones of the firm’s ethos since its foundation in 1904 with Hogan Lovells being the first law firm to establish a standalone pro bono practice in 1970. Lawyers from the Denver office each contribute an average of over 100 hours of pro bono work each year, one of the highest rates at any of the firms more than 45 offices around the world, in advancing criminal, economical, LGBTQIA+, and racial justice, and in handling immigration matters.
