Hogan Lovells celebrates twenty-year anniversary in Shanghai

Press releases | 12 July 2023

On 4 July 2023, Hogan Lovells’ Shanghai office hosted a reception to celebrate the office’s 20th anniversary at the Roof P.M. Modern Dining sitting atop the Museum of Art Pudong. The reception was attended by representatives of our clients, Miguel Zaldivar, CEO of Hogan Lovells, our lawyers and supporting members.

Speaking at the reception, Miguel explained the development process of our firm's commitment to deepen our presence in China, which has enabled us to become one of the few international law firms able to provide one-stop professional legal services to domestic and foreign clients through three platforms, namely a representative office, an intellectual property agency and an associated office in China; and expressed the firm's endeavour to build bridges between China and the global market through continuous efforts. Miguel said: “While we celebrate the past 20 years, we also look forward to the future. We look forward the potential, the opportunities, and the growth that awaits us in the next chapter of our journey here in Shanghai.”

Zhen Feng, Shanghai Office Managing Partner, said: “Since the establishment of our office in Shanghai, we have always been committed to our clients and have achieved a lot. At Hogan Lovells, we practise a culture of diversity, equality and inclusion that is in keeping with the spirit of Shanghai – the ocean that accepts all streams, which values diversity and tolerance. We believe that the diversity, equality and professionalism we represent allows each unique perspective and experience to enrich our understanding and break existing patterns, enhancing our ability to find legal solutions for our clients. 20 years is not only a record of our development as one of the first international law firms in China, but also a starting point for the future. We will continue to grow in China and shape tomorrow together with our clients.”

Over the years, China has always been a critical part of the firm’s global outreach. The firm has taken some pioneering steps to demonstrate this commitment. These include being one of the first five law firms to receive a licence to open its first office in Beijing in 1992 and a second office in Shanghai, and an establishment of Hogan Lovells Fidelity, an associated office between Hogan Lovells and a PRC law firm in the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone. As we look to the future, we are committed to growing alongside our clients in our shared journey, navigating the complex challenges and seizing the exciting opportunities that await.
