MIAS hosts first-ever Miami Arbitration Week, chaired by Hogan Lovells' Richard Lorenzo
Miami, Fla. 7 November 2023 — The Miami International Arbitration Society (MIAS) will host the first-ever Miami Arbitration Week (MAW) from 8 to 15 November in Miami, Fla., welcoming business executives and skilled legal practitioners from across the globe to discuss complex and high stakes arbitration matters.
In recent years, Miami has become an innovative and preferred alternative to traditional international arbitration centers such as London, New York, or Geneva, particularly for disputes arising from Latin America and the Caribbean. Miami has also rapidly emerged as an international business and financial gateway between the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
Hogan Lovells Regional Managing Partner Richard Lorenzo, who serves as the Chair for MIAS, noted: “Miami's emergence as the world’s preferred international arbitration venue is based on its strategic development as a hub for international business. Its strong regional position, as well as its ability to attract skilled practitioners across the globe, are what make Miami the ideal location to host the industry’s next major regional Arbitration Week. We are eager to showcase Miami’s strong capabilities in handling complex international disputes, particularly those arising from Latin America, leveraging Florida’s independent and transparent legal framework that benefits clients globally.”
Hogan Lovells partner Daniel Gonzalez, who previously chaired MIAS and currently sits on the organization’s Board of Directors, added: “This event brings together the top arbitration practitioners from across the globe, attracting clients as well as future talent to one of most rapidly growing venues for complex international dispute resolution. I look forward to connecting with our clients and colleagues here in Miami as the market continues to innovate and expand.”
Hogan Lovells’ Miami office is hosting the MAW kick-off event on 8 November. Events throughout the week include MIAS’ Second Annual LATAM Investor State Arbitration Conference, in partnership with the University of Miami on 12 November, consisting of a day-long conference including debates, discussions, and presentations focused on LATAM investor-state arbitration.
