Helen Poulson works on multi-jurisdictional, contentious and non-contentious patent matters. She has represented international clients from the life sciences, chemicals and technology, media & telecommunications sectors. Her experience includes advising on patent litigation proceedings in the Court of Appeal and the High Court (Patents Court), as well as working on disputes involving licences and/or other commercial contracts. As for non-contentious work, she has advised on complex patent portfolio and SPC issues.
Helen complements her legal expertise with a scientific training. She graduated from Imperial College London with a First Class Honours Biochemistry degree. Prior to making the move into law, she lectured biochemistry at Nottingham Trent University.
Helen trained at Hogan Lovells during which she undertook placements of six months in Intellectual Property, International Arbitration and Pensions. She spent six months working in the in-house legal team of an international bank as part of her training.
Representative experience
Acting for Akebia Therapeutics and Otsuka in their multi-patent litigation with FibroGen in relation to a small molecule therapy for anaemia.
Advising Anan Kasei (part of Solvay group), a multinational specialty chemicals company, on a cross-border patent dispute relating to catalyst/co-catalyst materials for automotive emission control.
Acting for a global pharmaceutical company on appealing the EPO's Opposition Division decision in relation to its patent for a cancer therapeutic.
Advising a global telecommunications company in UK litigation concerning patent entitlement and breach of contract issues, including coordination with European proceedings.
Acting for a global telecommunications company in UK litigation concerning standard essential patents.
