Katie is a partner in our Appellate & Supreme Court Litigation Group and the General Manager of Litigation for the Boston office. Katie focuses on high-stakes appellate and complex business litigation in highly regulated industries, including life sciences, insurance, technology, and automotive.
Katie appears frequently before the U.S. Supreme Court, including briefing and second-chairing argument in the seminal election law case Moore v. Harper. She also practices in state and federal courts across the country, ranging from Massachusetts to Hawaii. She has briefed and argued dozens of appeals and dispositive motions, and she serves as a trusted advisor for class actions, antitrust litigation, insurance litigation, intellectual property litigation, and administrative challenges. Katie also advises on administrative law and constitutional issues, including presidential power and international agreements.
Before joining Hogan Lovells, Katie clerked for Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr., of the U.S. Supreme Court and Judge Brett Kavanaugh of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
Katie received the Sears Prize at Harvard Law School, which is awarded to the top two students in the 1L class. While in law school, Katie served as Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Journal of Law and Technology, a board member of the Women's Law Association, and a student fellow at the Petrie-Flom Center for Health Law Policy, Biotechnology, and Bioethics. She also participated in the Harvard Supreme Court Litigation Clinic.
Representative experience
Represented Fortune 20 technology company in class certification appeal to the Ninth Circuit, leading district court to admit error and reverse grant of class certification.
Overturned $1 billion trial verdict, with interest, in Hawaii Supreme Court on behalf of global pharmaceutical company.
Represented insurance company in California state court appeal, preserving favorable trial court judgment and preventing $4 billion in potential tax liability.
Won decisive victory Supreme Court case Moore v. Harper, described by Judge Luttig as "the most important case for American democracy in the almost two and a half centuries since America’s founding."
Represented global pharmaceutical company in opposition to class certification and motion to decertify class, leading to favorable settlement.
Successfully challenged insurance regulation in multiple proceedings in Washington state court, leading to important victory for insurance industry.
Represented automotive company in successful intellectual property appeal to the Federal Circuit.
Provide advice on constitutionality of international trade actions and agreements.
