Andreas Schmid is a patent litigator at our global patent litigation practice. He is qualified as German and European Patent Attorney and a Registered Rerpresentative for the Unified Patent Court (UPC) and represents clients in patent infringement and patent invalidity proceedings.

Andreas has extensive experience with technically complex and multi-jurisdictional patent litigation cases in various fields of technology, such as telecommunications and the various telecommunications standards (2G/3G/4G/5G), electronics, semiconductor technology, network security, and software.

A particular focus of Andreas' practice is on defending industry clients in litigation against non-practicing entities. In this context, Andreas has gained vast experience in the area of standard-essential patents (SEPs) where he has acted for major companies in litigation before the Unified Patent Court, German Civil Courts, the German Federal Patent Court and Federal Supreme Court, and the European Patent Office.

Andreas studied physics at the Technical University of Munich and worked at the Max-Planck-Institute for Plasma Physics, where he also obtained his Ph.D. in physics.

Prior to joining Hogan Lovells, Andreas worked with major law firms in Munich and Dusseldorf.

Representing US tech company in several patent litigation cases against Huawei Technologies on WiFi5 and WiFi6 technology.

Representing Palo Alto Networks against Broadcom and various NPEs in multiple patent litigation cases on network security.

Representing Texas Instruments and Ford in several patent cases on connected cars.

Representing US tech company against a non-practicing entity in the field of music-streaming.

Representing Medit, a Korean medical company, in 4 patent litigation cases against European competitor on oral medical scanning technology.

Representing DuPont in a complex case against Agfa on printing plates.

Representing Huawei Technologies in 25+ patent cases against various non-practicing entities an other telecommunications equipment manufacturer on standard-essential patents (UMTS and LTE).*
