As a former Deputy Chief in the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Wireless Telecommunications Bureau, Charles Mathias developed a stellar reputation as a thought leader with a vast range of experience within the communications industry who structured creative and practical solutions to regulatory challenges across a wide variety of issues in the telecommunications and technology industries.
At Hogan Lovells, Charles uses his knowledge to assist clients in understanding and navigating through the rapidly changing developments in 5G, infrastructure deployments, spectrum allocation and licensing, the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, and new network and facilities deployment models. Charles is also actively supporting clients whose activities involve national security issues, including supply chain, network security, and critical communications infrastructure.
Charles leverages his deep experience from serving as the Bureau's lead advisor on a variety of complex FCC programs and initiatives, including wireless network and national security matters and innovative uses of spectrum, to advise clients on telecommunications regulations and compliance. He regularly advised FCC commissioners and the Wireless Bureau Chief on a broad range of policy, regulatory, and legal matters, including license transfers, spectrum transactions and use, sharing and re-purposing of spectrum, and mobile device safety and integrity.
