Hogan Lovells attorneys named among this week’s Runners-Up and Shout Outs for Am Law’s Litigator of the Week
The American Lawyer recognized several of the firm’s attorneys for their successes among this week’s Runners-Up and Shout Outs in the publication’s Litigator of the Week column.
A team led by partners Cate Stetson, Susan Cook, and Adam Kushner, with support from partner Tom Boer, senior associates Marlan Golden and Alexander Woo, and associate Claire Rhodes, were highlighted for their win from the Fifth Circuit this week for client Inhance Technologies. The court last week vacated two orders from the EPA that would have forced Inhance to abandon the fluorination process it has been using for decades to create a barrier to keep toxic chemicals from seeping into or out of plastic containers. The court found the agency’s attempts to prohibit Inhance from processing or manufacturing PFAs during the fluorination process exceeded its authority under Section 5 of the Toxic Substances Control Act.
Partner Mike Maddigan and associate Alicia Matarese, working with pro bono partners Public Counsel and Bet Tzedek were recognized for securing a settlement on behalf of thousands of borrowers who accessed the Property Assessed Clean Energy program in Los Angeles County. The program was aimed at allowing low-income residents to tap into their home equity to fund water and energy efficiency upgrades. Los Angeles County and Renew Financial agreed to pay a total of US$12 million to settle claims that lenders targeted homeowners who couldn’t afford to pay off the loans and that program administrators put inadequate safeguards in place.
