Well known by clients, counter-parties and peers alike for her commercial and solution driven approach, Shalini has extensive experience in a broad range of asset finance work and has been involved in a variety of cross-border aviation, shipping, plant and equipment transactions as well as general banking transactions.
Shalini's experience includes loan and lease financings, including capital markets financings, operating leases and charters, single asset and asset and loan portfolio disposals and acquisitions and restructurings. Her clients include banks, lessors, airlines, shipping companies, debt funds and private equity firms.
Shalini’s practice includes considerable experience in Africa, and she is a core member of the firm’s Africa Practice.
Shalini is known for her ability to lead on complex, multijurisdictional transactions across a range of product types in a solutions focused manner. She has been lead counsel on numerous matters which represent key trends in the asset finance market - both product based (such as ESG-related products, non-payment insurance backed financings, privately placed bonds and alternative lending) and geographically (such as in the African region).
Representative experience
Advising an Australian bank on a term loan financing for a UK cruise company for the acquisition of 5 cruise ships, financing of lease finance payments, and general working capital purposes.
Advising a government owned sponsor on the purchase, financing, conversion and chartering of an LNG vessel as a floating storage facility as part of a European LNG regasification project.
Advising Société Générale on an 8 vessel financing for K Shipping Investment Ltd (part of the Louis Dreyfus group).
Advising Helios Credit in relation to its financing and subsequent restructuring of a financing in the Nigerian shipping sector.
Advising African Export-Import Bank and a syndicate in relation to a debt restructuring of a financing of 10 E-190 aircraft, 9 Boeing 787 aircraft and 1 Boeing 777 aircraft for Kenya Airways.
Advising Eastern and Southern African Trade and Development Bank as mezzanine lender on a Balthazar insurance backed financing with French tax lease of 2 Airbus 350 aircraft for Ethiopian Airlines.
Advising an Australian commercial bank on its acquisition of a circa $800m aircraft loan portfolio from a German bank.
Advising UBS AG on the loan and lease financings of numerous corporate aircraft for private high net worth clients.
Advising African Export-Import Bank in relation to its pandemic financing of numerous corporates across Africa through its award winning Pandemic Trade Impact Mitigation Facility (PATIMFA).
Advising Eastern and Southern African Trade and Development Bank (TDB) on financing the acquisition of Cable & Wireless (Seychelles) Limited by a group of Seychelles investors.
Advising a not-for-profit on a funding strategy for its Africa focused healthcare project, which centres on providing vehicles for the delivery of healthcare in various African jurisdictions.
