José Luis is a partner in the Corporate & Finance practice group of Hogan Lovells' Madrid office. Having participated in some of the most relevant finance transactions in Spain, José Luis understands all players' needs and concerns and has the ability to build consensus amongst them.
Working in English, Spanish and Portuguese, José Luis focuses his practice on structured finance, securitization deals, debt capital markets, energy and infrastructure project finance, acquisition finance, real estate finance and insolvency and debt restructurings.
Representative experience
Advising BBVA in the financing for the acquisition of a international target by a Spanish listed company ($350MM).
Advising international group engaged in renewable power sector in financing and refinancing of several projects in Spain and Portugal, including through project bond schemes.
Advising international infrastructure fund regarding acquisition of €1bn distressed debt in Spanish infrastructure company (including analysis of cram down risks and debt for equity schemes).
Advising FMS in relation to the restructuring of an €1bn financing made available to the Spanish public entity AENA.
Advising Volkswagen Finance in the incorporation of several securitizations funds and in the issuance of securitization bonds (724 M Euros, 886 M Euros and 914 M Euros).
Advising Renshaw Bay in the acquisition from Carrefour of a portfolio of non-performing loans.
Advising Barclays Bank, S.A.U. in the sale of 25 branches together with €500MM associated business (including loan and mortgage loan portfolios originated in such branches).
Advising a Iberian group engaged in the renewable power sector in the acquisition of several PV projects in Spain and Portugal and in the financing made available for the acquisitions.
Advising a syndicate of banks led by BBVA in a c. 240 million multitranche financing for the acquisition by a financial sponsor of a Spanish target.
Advising a family office in a structured financing for the acquisition by means of a collar scheme of a significant stake in a Spanish listed company.
