As a former Chief Compliance Officer of a major international corporation, Philip Matthey has many years of experience in the areas of Compliance and Governance.
He advises clients on the development, implementation and assessment of compliance management systems, inter alia on compliance risk assessments, the design of compliance policies and procedures, the assessment of compliance risks in M&A transactions and joint ventures and other forms of cooperation as well as on compliance related duties of corporate bodies. Other key areas of advice include planning and conducting internal investigations as well as assisting clients in dawn raids and representing them in national and international administrative and criminal proceedings.
Prior to joining Hogan Lovells, Philip was Head of Governance, Risk and Compliance/Chief Compliance Officer of the TRATON Group, responsible for the group wide compliance program covering the areas anti-corruption, anti-money laundering, antitrust and human rights, as well as risk management and the internal control system. During this time, he was responsible for managing various complex regulatory proceedings, including the antitrust proceedings of the EU Commission against several commercial vehicle manufacturers. Prior to that, he was Compliance Officer at ThyssenKrupp AG. He started his professional career at international law firms in Cologne and Brussels in the fields of antitrust law and M&A.
Philip is a member of the board of DICO - Deutsches Institut für Compliance e.V. and co-editor of the law journal Corporate Compliance, CCZ.
